Why use the corona treatment ?
Because the surface tension of plastic films. Whose normal surface tension is not sufficiently high to permit good wetting by ink. In case of lamination.
For better bonding between two of more material corona treatment makes the film receptive to ink by inductive molecular changes in the surface of the films.
System description
The corona pretreatment system comprises a A.C. high frequency generator high voltage transformer and a work fixture with discharge electrode and a carrier roll which is earthed to act as the apposing electrode. To prevent short crickets the carrier roll is surrounded by dielectric material. The material is passed through an air gap of 1-2mm.
How corona treatment works?
In presence of high voltage & high frequency in presence of dielectric medium
The surface of the material is bombarded with high energized electrons resulting physical/chemical changes in the surface of the material results in the non-polarized molecules being converted in the polar groups. Mainly via the oxidation chain.
The procedure promotes the keying properties of surface for printing inks, paint and adhesive.
